Time Takes Flight.

C’mon now!
This week seriously just whizzed by me and I don’t have too much to show for it. We still don’t know when our imported dog will arrive
I think we’ve tentatively settled on the name “Guus”, which in English is “Gus” but pronounced completely differently in Dutch. Kinda like Goose, but with a hard ‘g’.
For Guus’s privacy I will not be releasing his photo, but I did a search and found another picture of an American Bulldog who looks very similar to our Mister Man.

Mmmmmmm....water....goood...
We’re so in love already, and just can’t wait to have him here!
We booked a house in the Ardennes (see here if interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ardennes) for a long weekend at the end of this month. We’re REALLY hoping Guus will be here by then, so he can come enjoy mountain life with us.
Yeah, I’ve got doggy brain.
It’s Sunday, which means back to work tomorrow. Which also in turn means, I got to get my butt off the computer and start sorting out Sunday night dinner.
Goin’ to the Dogs!
March 2, 2009
My boyfriend and I have been agonizing over the decision of whether or not we should get a dog. We want one desperately, however we live in a fairly small flat. Also, we’d prefer a larger breed.. nothing against you little dogs.
Anyways, back to the agony.
Can we afford to have a dog? Do we have enough room? Are we going to be home enough (not fans of just leaving the dog home all day)? What do we do if we go on vacation? Do we adopt or get a puppy? What breed? The list goes on.
I never used to be one to overly analyze every decision. In fact, I’m sometimes a little bit overly impulsive. Peter on the other hand is Dutch. The Dutch are known for thinking of every possible thing that COULD go wrong. Peter is no exception.
It’s exhausting in my opinion! In the end, we usually just go for it.. so why all the agonizing and ‘what if’s?”.
Finally, this past weekend we were looking at the SAME dog on a animal shelter website. We’ve been looking at this same dog for about 4 months now (Tyson, a 1.5 year old American Bulldog). I managed to convince Peter that we should just at LEAST go and visit him (and bring him home) and get to know him a little bit. So, we called to ask when we could pop by, but they informed us that Tyson had already been adopted.
Good for Tyson… but …. what about us?
Well, now it’s time for a little bit of irony. Later that day I was chatting to my Mom on MSN. She runs an animal shelter in her town, which is located in the foothills of the Rockies. However, because of many reasons which I won’t get into she’s decided to leave the shelter in search of something else. Her heart is DEEPLY attached to the shelter, and all the little critters inside of it.
She goes on to say that she has something to ask me. Never a good thing, right? Nervously I tell her to carry on. She goes on to tell me that there is a dog in her shelter that she rescued from a nightmare of a shelter in Montana. She has nursed him back to health, and loves him dearly. Since the first day she met him she thought he would be the perfect dog for Peter and I (since we want a “bully” type dog, and his general demeanor). She goes on to ask me “If, I arrange to get him there would you and Peter want him?” …. “WANT him?” I said, “We’d LOVE him to pieces!!”
After some more discussion, and “what ifs?” from Peter we have decided to go for it! We are adopting and and immigrating our very own Canadian/American Bulldog. His name right now is Dax, but we’re going to change his name. He had a rough start to his life, and he deserves a fresh start and a new name to help him forget about the past.
I hope he likes it here in Holland. At least we live close to the beach, and Peter is very keen to share all his meat with someone!
We can’t wait to meet you!
